Obesity is the 21st Century Face of Chronic Disease

Overweight or obesity is linked to more than 60 chronic diseases. More than 60% of U.S. adults and 25% of children are overweight or obese. Chronic diseases kill more than 1.7 million Americans per year and are responsible for  7 of 10 deaths in the U.S. One-third of all cancer deaths, two-thirds of hypertension cases and Type 2 diabetes are linked to being overweight or obese.

Despite annual spending of nearly $1 trillion and significant advances in care, 50% of patients do not receive appropriate care. Gaps in quality care lead to thousands of avoidable deaths each year.

Because obesity is related to the onset of so many other illnesses, stopping the growth of obesity in the U.S. is vital not only to our health - but also to the solvency of our health care system.
